Maracanã Stadium is the largest stadium in Brazil and was built for the 1950 FIFA World Cup. Ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, more than 1,500 Yingli Solar modules were installed on the roof of the stadium, which produced enough electricity to power 240 homes each year. The landmark project, along with several other initiatives such as solar-powered charging stations and information towers, resulted in the 2014 FIFA World Cup being one of the greenest World Cups in history.
